Superhard Duo - PCBN Composites and Diamond Composites

Composites of cemented carbide and superabrasives are versatile and important because of their unique properties. These composites combine the high hardness of cemented carbide with the high strength of cemented carbide, resulting in excellent machinability. The synthesis of large-size composites is made possible by large-bore six-sided presses operating at ultra-high pressures and high temperatures. The main polycrystalline composites of BN(china) Technology in this field are polycrystalline cubic boron nitride composites with a diameter of φ60 and polycrystalline diamond composites with a diameter of φ55.

By combining polycrystalline Cubic Boron Nitride (CBN) micropowder and cemented carbide substrate as the core raw materials, the sintering process is carried out under extreme ultra-high pressure and high temperature, which realizes the solid growth of the CBN layer on the cemented carbide substrate. This innovation not only skillfully combines the excellent hardness, outstanding wear resistance and high chemical stability of cubic boron nitride, but also makes full use of the easy welding and machining characteristics of cemented carbide. The hardness of the Cubic Boron Nitride layer reaches HV3500~HV6000, which shows a wide and far-reaching application potential in the processing of cast iron, hardened steel and cemented carbide.

Polycrystalline Diamond Composites

Polycrystalline diamond composites are made from diamond micropowders and cemented carbide matrix through a sintering process under extreme conditions of ultra-high pressure and high temperature. During this process, the diamond layer will grow firmly on top of the cemented carbide matrix. This composite material not only inherits the ultra-high hardness, excellent wear resistance and excellent thermal conductivity of diamond itself, but also combines the high strength, excellent impact toughness and good weldability of cemented carbide. In particular, the hardness of the diamond layer ranges from HV8500 to HV10000, a level of hardness second only to that of natural diamond. In addition, compared with monocrystalline diamond, polycrystalline diamond composites effectively overcome the anisotropic easy to disintegrate the defects, so as to have a higher fracture toughness.
